When Should You Schedule Your I-693 Medical Exam?
Plan Ahead: Give Your Blood Test Results Enough Time to Come Back
If you need a USCIS Form I-693 Immigration Medical Examination, one of the most important things to remember is to schedule your exam early enough to allow time for laboratory testing and completion of your paperwork.
At Lumberton Internal Medicine Group, we want our patients to understand that your I-693 appointment may involve more than one step. Depending on your individual situation, blood testing and other laboratory work may be required as part of the immigration medical examination.
Why Should You Schedule Your Exam in Advance?
During your I-693 medical exam, required laboratory tests may be collected. Blood test results can take up to approximately one week to return, depending on the testing and laboratory processing time.
Because of this, we recommend allowing enough time for your results to come back before you need your completed I-693 paperwork.
Planning ahead can help prevent unnecessary delays.
What Happens After Your Blood Is Drawn?
After your required samples are collected, the testing is submitted to the laboratory for processing.
Once the results are available, the medical team will review them as part of completing your immigration medical examination.
We ask patients to allow up to one week for their blood test results to return. Patients should also plan to return to the office approximately one week later to follow up on their results.
Why Is the Follow-Up Visit Important?
Your follow-up visit gives the medical team an opportunity to review your laboratory results with you and determine whether any additional steps are needed.
If everything is complete and there are no additional requirements, your I-693 paperwork can then be finalized.
This is why scheduling your appointment with enough time for laboratory processing is so important.
A Simple Timeline to Remember
First Visit:
-
Complete your immigration medical examination.

Don't Wait Until the Last Minute
If you have an upcoming immigration filing or deadline, don't wait until the last minute to schedule your I-693 medical examination.
Allowing additional time for laboratory results and follow-up can make the process easier and help avoid unnecessary delays.
